My Story

If you were not able to make it to church this past Sunday, Bro. Bill continued his series on Making it Count. This past Sunday we were encouraged and challenged to tell our story and testimony. You may say, "My story isn't very exciting. I didn't have any kind of striking revelation or go through any major obstacles like drug addicts or alcoholics or blindness like Paul." But I say your story is exciting! You did have a striking revelation, and we all go through major obstacles to overcome our old sinful nature. Your story is just as important as the next person's story.

Today I would like to share with you my story.

Growing up in a Christian home, I always knew of Jesus and God. I don't remember there ever being a time when I thought, "Who is God?" or "Who is Jesus Christ?" I have always known about them.

That doesn't mean I knew them.

I knew God created all things. I knew Jesus was God's Son who was sent to die on a cross for your and my sins. I knew that to go to heaven you had to ask Jesus to be your Savior and come into your heart.

But all that didn't really click until one year at Vacation Bible School. I was 9 years old. The teacher asked my class, "What happens if you don't ask Jesus to save you and come into your heart?" The little boy beside me raised his hand and answered, "You go to hell."

And it clicked.

Those four words caused my eyes to widen and my jaw to drop just a little as I realized that if I died right now, I would not be going to heaven. So that night I called my mom into my room and told her I wanted to be saved. She led me through a prayer, and that night I was saved. Jesus came into my heart, forgave me of all my sins and became my Savior.

Has it been easy ever since? Of course not. As with any other relationship, it is hard work. It takes effort. Jesus never promised an easy life if we follow Him.

"...If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you...." John 15:20

But I have chosen to follow Jesus. Why? Because He loves me. Because He died for me. I need Him. My sins are too heavy for me to carry. He took my sins - and yours - and died in our place. He became sin and conquered death so that we could have everlasting life!

I hope you choose to follow Jesus as well.

I enjoy hearing from you.

Study to Show Thyself Approved

Photobucket

2 Timothy 2:15 has been on my mind the past few days. It's really just the first word of the verse that has been constantly in my mind. Study. Why is it so hard for me to study the Bible? I need to. I want to. But I don't. I would love to get up early in the morning and read before going to work. And sometimes I do. I'll get into the habit of getting up to read, and doing that makes my day so much better! Then I slip up and fall out of the habit... again. Back and forth. Back and forth.

I have a fairly laid-back job. So I actually have time during the day to read. Do I? No. I surf the web aimlessly. Pinterest can be a very dangerous website. I could stay on there for hours, just looking. Do you have as much trouble as I do studying the Bible? Do you have a certain plan you go by, or are you going through a Bible study book right now? Would you mind sharing what works for you?

Scripture and Prayer Downloads

I have added the scriptures that Mrs. Suzanne sent in an email to the downloads page. I have also come across prayer calendars that we could all use. One is for praying for your children, and the other is for praying for your husband. They both come from Inspired to Action. This site has many resources we women could use! You should definitely check it out! Do you have no husband or children? Well, there is no time like the present to start praying for that future husband or child! Never forget how powerful prayer can be!

One more thing. If you have your own blog and would like to place our button on your blog, just copy the text in the box below and paste it into an HTML gadget on your own blog!

Now then, let's pick back up with the monthly memory verse, shall we? What I chose for this month is quite a bit lengthy; so how about we just choose one part of the armor of God that we need to work on and focus on that.

"This is why you must take up the full armor of God, so that you may be able to resist in the evil day, and having prepared everything, to take your stand. Stand, therefore,

with truth like a belt around your waist,
righteousness like armor on your chest,
and your feet sandaled with readiness for the gospel of peace.
In every situation take the shield of faith, and with it you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.
Take the helmet of salvation,
and the sword of the Spirit, which is God's word.

Pray at all times in the Spirit with every prayer and request, and stay alert in this with all perseverance and intercession for all the saints." Ephesians 6:13-18

Praying for you,
Jamie
